deaf children, less than 5% have access to education.

Deaf Education Initiative is striving to ensure that no deaf child goes without literacy and learning.
We are a non-profit organization, registered with the Charity Commission UK, which is working to empower underserved deaf children and youth in Pakistan. We support the Deaf Reach Program in Pakistan, which is working on empowering the Deaf Community by providing a full circle solution from education, skills training, and teacher development to parent training and job placements.

Deaf Education Initiative envisions a future where quality education is a reality for every deaf child in Pakistan, as we work together with our local communities to educate, inspire, and empower.

Educating

Nearly one million deaf children in Pakistan are deprived of education and language development. We are breaking this cycle by enabling access to quality education in their own language i.e. sign language.

Parent Training

Through the Parent Training Program, parents are provided with training in Pakistan Sign Language (PSL). This initiative empowers parents, enabling them to establish stronger connections and effective communication with their Deaf children while actively participating in their child’s development.

Teacher Training

Our Teacher Training Program ensures that all our educators are well-equipped to meet the unique learning needs of our students by regular trainings. In addition to building capacity in local teachers of the Deaf, we also work on developing new student teacher trainees. Over 50% of Deaf Reach teaching staff are deaf.

Digital Sign Language Resources

Deaf Reach has leveraged digital technology to document Pakistan Sign Language (PSL), producing the first-ever 7,500+ word PSL dictionary, PSL curricular resources, stories, and teacher training tutorials. Our PSL Learning Portal, the first resource of its kind in Pakistan, provides country-wide access to these educational resources for the Deaf, their teachers and families free of cost.

Job Placement

Deaf Reach is driven by the overarching goal of empowering individuals holistically and creating opportunities for them to thrive, not just academically but also economically. To fulfil this, our Job Placement program actively works to locate and facilitate employment for both its graduates and the wider Deaf community, ensuring a pathway to financial independence and success.
